I am a writer and a self-taught artist. I was told as a child that I had a great imagination and I heard countless adults tell me that I could be a writer “someday.” Unfortunately, I programmed my brain that “someday” would never be now. For years I tried to live up to the expectations of society and family of origin (FOO) by finding a real job and living a “normal” life — well, as normal as a non-heterosexual, non-monogamous, non-religious, apolitical person could be.
Over the last few years I’ve been very, very slowly starting to explore ways of expressing my artist’s voice. It started with a series of bonfires designed to free me from the weight of 20+ years of “scribbling” and a ritual head-shaving to mark the birth of the artist and remove the weight of the person I’d thought I was supposed to become. In the interim I’ve written two novels for National Novel Writing Month, worked on a variety of collages and mixed media projected as well as created a few pieces of altered art.
I have a day job with elixirinteractive.com which is an online reputation management company, but I’m working on developing alternative revenue streams to support our long-time goal of becoming an Artistic Nomad.
This space is intended celebrate and honor my creativity and chronicle my journey from rooted to nomad. Right now you’ll find collage, digital art, and photographs. As the Universe inspires, I’ll be adding more of my art, visual and written and sharing more of my history and philosophy.
